Myakka River State Park is a beautiful park, one of the nicest we visited in Florida. It has a lot of good birds, though most of them can be found elsewhere. There good bird viewing around the lake and there's even a canopy walkway, but that was not very crowded with birds while we were there.

An impression of the Myakka River from
the river crossing in the park. |
One of the omnipresent Great Egrets. Not
in full breeding plumage anymore during our visit. The southern parts
of Florida were rather dry (Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary was totaly dry)
but Myakka still held enough water. |
Myakka held three pairs of Sandhill Crane
during our visit. This rather common bird was among our favorite birds
of the trip. |
This Red-shouldered Hawk is acting a bit
weird. I guess it was troubled by the abundant muscitoes or other bugs. |
