Loxahatchee WMA

Loxahatchee Wildlife Management Area was our last attempt to find Smooth-billed Ani. Unsuccessful but it's another great area for photographing wildlife.

Not only birding can be exiting in Florida. There's a lot of reptiles to be found including a large amount of species of tortoises. Actually I don’t have a clue as to which species this is.
I used to identify butterflies in Europe too, but since I went further abroad I stopped identifying them, I just enjoy them now. This species is a Queen (Danaus gilippus - thanks Urs Geiser!)
Tricollored Heron
This Tricolored Heron kind of sat in the water before we approached, probably for cooling off a bit. I was rather hot during our visit.
Mottled Duck
The Mottled Duck is rather boring. The male in front pretty much resembles the female in the back.
Anhinga
The Anhinga is widespread, common and tame. Most allow close approach for pictures like this.
